NDP will spend $74 million to price-cap power bills for Albertans this year

I hate being the bearer of bad news. So, let me couch it with some good news. Your electricity rates will be going up — but not astronomically. This weekend TransAlta will be mothballing two of its coal-fired power plants at its Sundance facility west of Edmonton. According to a news release, it’s all part of the company’s “strategy to accelerate its transition to gas and renewables generation.”
